But Edwards was never going to prison immediately. Sentencing aims aren't just to punish but also to rehabilitate. When probation suggest you can be rehabilitated, the numbers of images are small and have been held in possession only (for example rather than distributed to another) then a suspended sentence order happens pretty much every time.

The sexual offenders rehabilitation requirement is a pretty intensive retirement too. At least it was when I was a defence solicitor and had to talk people through it.
