West coast escapes 'biggest IT outage in history' - find out what local services are impacted

A major IT problem is disrupting transport, healthcare, businesses and other sectors across the world - but ferries, planes and trains in the Highlands and Islands are running as normal. Worldwide, almost 1,400 flights have been cancelled but no issues have been reported by Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL), which runs airports on Barra, Benbecula, Campbeltown, Islay and Tiree.

CalMac ferries in the Hebrides and ScotRail trains from Glasgow to Oban and Mallaig are running as normal.

In the UK, NHS England says most GP practices are affected - but there is no known impact on emergency services.

NHS Highland said it had evaluated its systems and can confirm that all systems are operational apart from the Dragon Medical One speech recognition system which has around 10 users. "These are very small numbers and a contingency is in place," a spokesperson said.

Argyll and Bute Council have also told us there are no reported issues with any of its online or public facing services so far.
