Great article - would love to see women coaching in the men's game though

I think coaching should be viewed as its own specialism from a young-ish age, rather than something former players do in retirement.

It's going that way, but my perception is we're behind our European counterparts. I have no evidence to back that up, it's just a hunch based on the number of young European managers appearing in the EFL and me not being aware of them having a playing history at a high level.

Feels to me that in comparison, most young English managers are former players. McKenna is the obvious exception, and I'd like to see more people like him coming through that are specialist coaches and tacticians, that have studied the game for 10 years or more before getting their shot at management. Absolutely no reason why they shouldn't be female- the former player thing holds that back.
