A minor point...
After the 2016 referendum, we had the 2017 GE. Labour won 262 seats. 149 were leave. 113 remain. By constituencies Labour more leave than remain. Wonder why labour have their 'no plan to rejoin EU' policy?
Then; Jeremy Hunt remain, Matt Hancock remain, Liz Truss remain, Theresa May remain, Phillip Hammond remain, David Cameron remain, George Osbourne remain, John Major remain, Ken Clarke remain. it was Thatcher who took the UK into the EEC opposed by traditional Labour - Foot, Benn (and Corbyn). Scargill leave. Bob Crow leave. CBI remain. Dianne Abbott described Corbyn as a life long Brexiteer.
IMHO, a lot of the issues in UK politics over the last 8 years stem from this desperate desire to misrepresent brexit as simply right wing. Traditional Labour, Scargill, unions, 'red wall' = leave. Tony (I remember him being called Tory Blair - do you?) Blair London vegan sandals Labour = remain. Traditional Jeremy Hunt CBI Tories remain. Eurosceptic Rees Mogg Blue passport Tories = leave. Actual left and actual right are leave. Centrists remain.
Sunak doesn't represent the leave Tories so they opt for reform. The real worry is that if leave Labour don't think the party represents them, they will also go reform. then we will really be in the s**t.
This is also getting way too many words but - I am Swiss. look at the countries near(ish) us. Italy far right, biggest party in France far right, biggest part in Belgium far right, biggest party in Netherlands far right, second biggest party in Germany far right, biggest party in Austria far right. Orban in Hungary, Proudly anti LGBT law and justice party biggest party in Poland. How far right would it have to become before this started to concern the rabid 'brexit is fascist' crowd. It is concerning me...
