Not sure that's true

Different eras etc, and expectations of defenders are different too.

We set up to be very attacking, which exposes the defence.

I guess it's arguable about whether we do that because the defence is ropey or whether, by setting up that way it makes them seem so.

I reckon our approach flatters the attacking midfield and puts pressure on all other areas. Which, in turn, causes us difficulties in the latter stages if the attacking midfield are blunted by higher quality opposition.

Also, I freely admit to not being terribly interested in the international games anymore. I feel little attachment to the players and and there's a section of the fanbase who seem eminently dislikable.
