Squad age

Is it really that high? All he needs to do is overhaul central defence and release Barnes to achieve that I think, and surely we need to do that for quality reasons rather than purely age, so I would suggest that is precisely where he will focus.

For the rest of the 30+ guys, McLean 32 but doubt he will get released after this season, and Fassnacht is just 30.

The rest is already fairly young. Gunn 28, McCallum 23, Dimi 28, Stacey 28, Fisher 19, Sara 24, Nunez 24, Rowe 21, Sainz 23 and then the potentials coming through from the development squad.

So anyway, I don't think he will focus on any position based on reducing age. My expectation is that he will attempt to overhaul central defence and Barnes as a priority and then if we have any funds left add another striker, replace Gibbs with a defensive midfielder who is a bit more of a spoiler than Nunez, a left back to replace Dimi and challenge McCallum, and a better second GK if Reyes not deemed good enough for the bench.

Obviously any sales we will no doubt be forced into will influence the above, but I don't think the division will. I think we need to do the same thing whether we are in the Championship or the Premier League. And no, the result still won't be good enough for the PL but we don't have the funds to buy an entire PL squad.
