The period of that style being in vogue
Lasted longer than we all care to remember. And it was pretty widespread. In addition to Jack Charlton teams I am thinking of Harry Bassett at Wimbledon, Graham Taylor at Watford and John Beck at Cambridge and Preston. There were others too whose names escape me. Fans were prepared to put up with it for a short while if it brought fleeting success, but soon got fed up of it.
