David Wagner's press conference, ahead of Wednesday's trip to Middlesbrough, takes place at 4️⃣pm today.
---------------------------------------------------

DW on Kenny McLean: “He is good and nearly back to normal. He will be fine for Wednesday and no further concerns after last game. We will make a late call on Nacho (Nunez) but he will be available for Rotherham.”

DW: “Everybody is fine. We have more or less the same squad available as we did for Saturday.”

DW on Ben Gibson: “He has shown a different style in his game. Aggressive and front foot defending, and not just the ball-playing CB people talk about. He deserves all the praise and credit he gets at the moment.”

DW on Josh Sargent: “I never get tired of talking about Josh Sargent as long as he is healthy.”

DW on Josh Sargent: “He is in the top two I have worked with. Maybe even the best I have worked with. I still think fitness wise he is not on his top level, but he is on the way to do so. This won’t change that he is a complete striker and we are happy to have him.”

DW on Van Hooijdonk: “Don’t put this boy under too much pressure. Fitness wise he needs to improve. He knows this and I know this. But I have lots of trust that in a few weeks he can impact us.”

DW on Sunderland match: "Once I've watched the game back, the players did a lot of good things. We really liked how we defended, how high up the pitch we kept our line. We forced them to longer, uncontrolled balls and were rarely beaten in open play."

DW on Boro: “They had a great cup run, which automatically means lots of midweek games. They are not in the best run results wise. But their players are still committed.”

DW on Boro’s lack of goals: “If you look on their expected goals, it’s because they have not been clinical. It’s not that they aren’t creating chances.”

DW: “We know how important the right mindset is. My team is hungry to keep going and we like to show this on Wednesday. I respect Boro a lot, but we need to be independent from the opponent. It’s about us.”

DW: “A little bit in the back of your head. Like it was at Sunderland and Watford before we played these games. I have less what happened last time away (against Boro), but more at home this season. When we were below par.”

DW on Mark Attanasio: “Yes, we had a chat in the manager office after the game. He told me it was his first win. This will give him more bravery to come next time as he is superstitious.”

DW on the week ahead: “I think 74 points is the average for the playoffs, if I’m right. Because it’s only the average, we don’t know if it’s the truth (for this season). We can only be focused on the next game and Boro.”
