It's the size of the hadrons. You can get a little hadron collider for about a tenner

off the market. Colliding the big ones costs a lot more - which is odd because you'd think, being bigger, it was easier to bump them off each other.

My only objection to the really big hadron collider proposal is that I'll be dead when the result from it come in, cos I want to know about dark matter but suspect I never will, other than that stuff that collects down your sink if you don't clean it out from time to time of course, or the gunk that collects in the seal of your washing machine.
