Back from the game - Goodnight Irene!

Not a bad turnout for a long old journey (longer than mine for most) on a freezing (-4) night on the Memorial Ground open, uncovered terrace (few hundred seated in a slice of the Subbuteo stand too).

Act 1; Was a rum old do. Keeping it tight as "they have players that can hurt you" ... possibly! It was only Long that stopped The Gas taking the lead earlier but no surprise when they took the lead through the free man on the edge of the box slotted home.

City struggled to string two passes together and apart from a few minor flashes from Rowe, never looked like creating much.

We looked right at home in a League 1 game, and I know it was a changed team but still pretty poor.

The early Batth injury was fortuitous as we looked better after the change...a bit anyway!

Intermission; Long old queue for coffee and nothing else as all pies/pasties/sausage rolls had sold out... already kicked off before being served but luckily its on top of the terrace so can view the game.

Act 2; immediately looked more on the front foot and a tidy little tap in from Sara brought some energy to the frosty atmosphere.

Penalty! No doubts but Idah gave the keeper a chance but it crept in after a half-save.

More comfortable and with Sara further forward we looked a different proposition. Fairly comfortable but Long did have to make a good save before The Mayor popped up late on to strike home from distance.

3-1 looks straightforward and with some players rested it was in the end but again early tactics looked ponderous and lacking creativity.

Idah huffed and puffed but didn't really do much.
Barnes made a nuisance of himself but he's had his time, less effective than old Chrissy Martin.
Rowe didn't do a lot but did show flashes.
Sara looks completely different in the advanced role.

Not sure about the nation tuning in to watch us park the bus against Liverpool!!

Wemberlee Wemberlee... or not!
