The ability of football fans to see hope when objectively there is none is extraordinary

More or less every set of fans seems to think that this is their season each year off the back of some pretty average summer signings.

I remember thinking that Sibierski and Lita were going to see us push towards the playoffs! Other fans are just the same, Stoke thought they’d be right up there this season, Blackburn fans seem to always think they should be, swansea and hull are no different, WBA etc etc.

I do wonder if wanting Wagner sacked might fall in the same bracket to a degree - I’d quite like it to happen just because it would liven things up and give some new hope and vigour to what is oh so boring at the moment. My brain tells me that it might just be more of the same in the absence of either a whole pre season for a new coach to coach some footballing skills into this lot, or the signing of a bunch of new players that can actually pass, hold up the ball and occasionally beat their man or do something else that surprises the opposition.

Or maybe it’s just January and I’m being a gloomy bastard.
