I find this a little strange, because when they introduced that to work around the

then battery life issues, I seem to remember that it was quite clearly communicated.

Perhaps they only communicated it in a way that existing users would be aware, but anybody buying one was not so aware.

Samsung do the same I think? It's a pretty obvious thing to do really. These days it's hardly noticeable as the tech is better.
