Yes, I agree with all of that

I don’t like this narrative that Wagner is an “imbecile” etc. that pops up on here, but based on the selection yesterday, it’s hard to argue with the sentiment, if not the way it’s expressed.

I think the question of whether Wagner should be sacked is more nuanced than the one Gary asks, though.

The real question is who is the best manager to take this club forward in the long term? I don’t think anyone would say it’s Wagner, but is mid season the best time to find the best possible replacement? If we sack him now, we’ll be limited to out of work managers and those that would consider leaving there current club mid season - isn’t the pool much bigger come summer?

I don’t think changing Wagner now is going to completely change our fortunes this season, so for me, sacking him isn’t the real priority, it’s finding the right replacement. And he’s not doing soooo badly that we should go for a caretaker, is he? Although, at least that option would show some intent from the club that they are committed to change, like we did at the end of the Alex Neil era.

No easy answers, Wagner isn’t the future, but I’m very keen to avoid a knee jerk appointment from a limited pool and end up with smith / Wagner Mk III and still be in the same position in 12 months time.
