An ageing squad

The stat that set this all off was "oldest starting XI". Bear in mind that this was seriously skewed by the enforced absence of Gunn (27), Rowe (20) & Sarge (23), while the subs bench was a virtual kindergarten [Sainz & Idah (22), Springett & Warner (21), Reyes & Gibbs (20) & Fisher (19)].

Of the recent signings;
Long - aged 29 - replaced Krul - aged 35
Long has only 18 months left on his deal.

Duffy - aged 31 - was to fill the Hanley (aged 31) gap.
If Gibson leaves in the summer we have an experienced CB already here.

Forshaw - aged 32 - can be released next summer

Batth - aged 32 - was a short-term fix for Omobamidele's departure. Batth can be released in the summer.

Barnes - aged 34 - replaced Pukki - aged 33.

Hwang - aged 31 - was a short-term fix for Sarge's injury, and he will be gone in the summer.

City have promising lads out on loan, and no doubt some of them will be in the senior squad next season.
If our recent signings had been of the young, hungry variety then they may have blocked the pathway for the likes of Hills, Kamara, Tomkinson & Warner.

As even the offshore t**t spotted, when City were winning there was almost universal praise for the experienced recruits.
