I think Max is a great Championship right back, maybe even a decent right back for

a weaker Premier League team - possible a squad player there but I think may also have the ability to start depending on team.

But he matured really early and has plateaued some time ago, and I think that is visible for all to see which will cut his value from what it might have been when he burst on to the scene and went from strength to strength for a couple of years.

If we say 10m now as opposed to 25m in his early NCFC years, then I am OK with that. Given how much we spent on Dimi and McCallum and other full backs in the meantime, I think 6 seasons of a solid, consistent right back who is rarely injured is worth more than 15m to any club of our level.

The fact that he's been competent from the outset means we've already had great service from him, so to get any decent fee on top of that is great business.

I think we took a gamble on Byram's fitness which didn't work out. He would have been a more than capable replacement if he hadn't been injured most of the time. Wasn't a terrible gamble at 750k, but I think that prevented us from letting Max go earlier during his peak hype period.
