I suspect
The culture of professional cricket and cricketers is basically pretty crude. Probably other sports too. Their 'humour', their attitudes. Think of the sort of sledging endured by Glen McGrath a few years ago after his wife died for example. People existing in that environment will behave in certain ways more broadly. And it's been like that for decades.
