Just to add to my nomination of Ron Saunders below....
Won the League title with Villa in 1981 and his team (he resigned in Feb 1982 after a disagreement with the board) won the European Cup 3 months later.
That's success, but agree it's hard to find anyone else remotely near that level of achievement.
