Or at least it feels like it has.

Back in the day we occasionally lost a top player such as Sutton to Blackburn or Townsend to Chelsea or we sold others when we needed the cash but you were at least generally able to keep a decent top flight side together long enough to build a team of sorts and the wage disparity wasn’t quite so big so I don’t remember the players or agents agitating for moves quite like they do now (with some exceptions like Bruce).

Nowadays if a smaller team gets any kind of star player they are invariably snapped up before the team can really benefit from them for any prolonged period of time. I appreciate we’ve had Emi for 3 years but I’d love to see him have a decent prem season and hopefully keep us up for a second season before we lose him.
