If this was purely sport then you can argue that there's all manner of rough with the smooth etc.

Football became business long ago - services were provided, failed and a company (the club) can argue it'll face significant financial loss as a consequence.

Just because reality doesn't align with the romantic idea we have about what football is, doesn't mean we should denigrate people working within that reality.
