I was self employed up until 1995 when I joined the MOD and to be honest I found it pretty lax regarding tax etc in that I never paid more than 10% without putting too much through. Paye from 95 to 2015 and have to say with pension holy and sick pay like for like was much better off. Now back self employed I reckon I need 5k more to get anyway near. Before if you were a subbie you got all the money and sorted tax at end now it's like paye main contractor stops 20% and you get back what you can at end of tax year and a lot of contractors are not the fastest paying hence folks struggle with cash flow. That's built trade anyway.
