Which begs the question, what’s the ideal whisky for someone who doesn’t like whisky?

I’d say Glenmorangie. I’ve tried it on people on the past and often got a “That’s not bad actually” more often than not. It’s not a cheapo, not overly complex but a good all-rounder.
