Most resi conveyancers don't charge by the hour as far as I know
Think charges will vary from around £500 - £1,000 depending on who you use but I may be a bit out of date on that. They charge more if you are a buyer than a seller I think. Searches etc. are an extra cost.
I have no idea how many hours each specific matter takes but think they work on a bulk basis and presumably some they win, some they lose. 8 out of 10 probably don't have any issues and don't take up much of their time. In my experience some are very good and thorough but others are not.
