The biggest gulf in English football isn't PL to Championship - or 'Big Six' to the rest
It's the Championship to League 1. In the latter, all sorts of clubs can't even afford to get promoted - because wage bills become impossible immediately in, in financial terms, one of the most (the most?) insane leagues in Europe.
Here's the current Championship table. Last season's three promoted clubs are all in the bottom three now:

Meanwhile, of last season's relegated clubs, Rotherham are 2nd and doing fine. Bolton have, er, other reasons for their situation. Which leaves....
It's absolutely astonishing what's going on there. A blind chimp would have them in the top six. Instead, they gave their Norwich spy a massive new contract!
I still assume Sunderland will ultimately make it back up this season btw. But my word, they're making heavy weather of it. Again.
