Just back from the game etc
Random musings from Anfield.....
The atmosphere in the away end was tremendous throughout. Much annoyance from me at the ease with which we let them score their goals but the chanting never stopped and thoroughly enjoyed the evening despite the result! I did go with my Jonah mascot nephew from Preston last season... so apologies for him causing the loss again :)
While the result was expected and somewhat inevitable, we played a lot of sexy football. Pleased we gave a good account of ourselves and gives us something to build on. I don't think confidence will have been dented and they'll be eager to put things right at home over the next couple of games.
In the first half, Emi wandering left us exposed a lot down Liverpool's left. I think Robertson was actually strangely reserved and should've attacked us a lot more in tandem with Origi. When Buendia goes linking the play and looking for the ball, one of the central midfielders needs to drop across to cover. Easier said than done though sure.
Overall I thought we did alright playing out from the back, against the team that will press us as much as anyone. There was usually an out ball to one of the full-backs if Krul had lofted it over a Liverpool attacker but he didn't see this a lot of the time. We looked really composed though.
Hopefully Timm is back next up to replace Grant. That OG was horrible!
My Liverpool season ticket holding brother-in-law text me after 25mins to say "Cantwell is quality". Pleased he got a start - was really bright, skilful and inventive. Back to his best now he's growing his hair back! There were a couple of occasions that he didn't track back well enough but that's inevitable and he worked really hard throughout. Was at least as good as Emi for me Clive.
Pukki will continue to score goals in the Premier League - all the idiots predicting he won't in "the national press" are ill-informed clowns. Top movement.
I thought we were transformed by Leitner coming on (which sounds a bit weird given we created most chances in the first half!). He was particularly sexy, linking the play with ease and dictating things in the middle of the park. More of him please Daniel. I feared the worst for set-piece defending when he came on for Marco but we looked so much more joined up with him on.
Haven't seen any highlights or read any reports (yet) but hopefully they were complimentary of the way we went about it, rather than "naive" etc. I reckon we'll be alright - and if we're not we'll enjoy playing this football regardless! I think the defence will shore things up. Hopefully Amadou has a big impact as well. Tommy T will likely end up drifting out of the team I think. Time will tell if Marco is up to it. Leitner to start next up.
A final cap doff to the Liverpool fans, who were all really friendly. Plenty of "enjoy the game" comments before the match. One of them also gave my nephew a NCFC scarf while we were hanging around outside the ground! Said that he went on holiday to Norfolk when he was young - his dad took him to a match and bought him a scarf. It's been in a wardrobe for 40yrs other than once putting it out on a snowman 10yrs ago! Wanted to bring it to the match and give it to a young Norwich fan. Top man :)
Onwards and upwards.... #OTBC
