Eldest knows we don't visit the 'real' Santa, they are his helpers because the 'real' one is far too busy to go EVERYWHERE to see ALL children in the run up, obvious innit?!

My wife puts a LOT of effort in in the prep, crumbs left from the snacks, glitter to show where he's been (thats the magic) we leave the magic key out as we don't have chimney that gets moved by the morning etc etc.
