Because...

in 2002 and 2004 my view was that he was learning and/or on limited resources, and hoped that exposure to Premiership standard football and having higher transfer budget would enable him to play proper passing football and not hoof-it-forward and drop everyone behind the ball every time we go ahead. I thought it would give him the opportunity to create a team that could (shock! horror!) keep possession of the ball. But he hasn't learned anything - he STILL things "hard work" and running about at a frenetic pace is the answer to everything.
He used to be a very limited tactical manager who was a great motivator. I hoped he'd improve the tactical side.
Instead he's still a very limited tactical manager but has lost his motivational abilities. So now he isn't good at anything.
As a young manager it was worth giving him a go but he doesn't have what it takes at the top level and doesn't seem interested in learning, simply in regurgitating the old "work ethic" dogma (which is clearly too ingrained to change).

Quite simply, there's no future in him so dragging out his departure is pointless.
