The Newsnight piece was very good.

Ultimately though McGuinness was a product of the troubles not the cause and there will have been hundreds of people who did heinous things who never sought peace or wished for a better life for future generations. That must be acknowledged.

I understand and respect the visceral reactions of those on here with forces history who have bitter experiences. Others, with no experience, who just dismiss him as a w**ker or scum, less so.
