I've now upgraded all four of mine and

no worries so far.
Not a huge difference between 10 and 8 - more cosmetic changes. Main purpose seems to be to promote their search methods (bing [via Edge] and cortana).
So click on the Cortana box and hide that and use Firefox as my default and I'm as i was.
Edge browser is a bit pointless as well - I need IE for testing (it is still installed but took a bit of finding).

I'd say give it a go. It is really easy to revert back to your previous OS if you don't like it.
