As I said below...

I like Rick Waghorn's stuff mostly, but in this piece he's guilty of the same thing he's accused internet message board folks of... lack of, and I quote, ?understanding and context?.

He's assumed, incorrectly, that all of us are incapable of sorting the bullsh!t from the truth. He's quite right, there's a lot of crap on here and elsewhere. Do I believe it all? If you take Rick's argument as written, he's implying I do. There's a few gullible people out here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't treat what's posted here with the same healthy dose of cynicism I treat PR from the club with right now.

Some valid points raised, to be sure, but I'm smart enough to know what's likely to be true or not. It's pretty obvious many of the more ridiculous rumours are not. One thing he doesn't tackle in the article is that it's only a matter of timing anyway. Most of the crap is only pub talk of the sort that's been about since football has, it's just that it gets around faster nowadays, more people can discuss it at once, and perhaps most tellingly, it's easier for the press and/or club to pick up on it and draw their own conclusions.

And one last thing, I seem to recall a local paper group that once printed some very dodgy football "news" lifted right from this very page. It wasn't one of Archant's offerings, was it? I guess we see why Rick assumes the rest of us can't tell truth from fiction too, eh?
