Player sales, back of a fag packet stuff
Last time we went down we sold ?11.4m worth of players and spent ?14m meaning a net spend of ?2.7m.
We ran a player wage bill at ?43m on a turnover of circa ?53m. That was with TV income of ?28m.
Our parachute payments next season are estimated at between ?36-?38m so on the basis that gate receipts and other revenues should be more or less the same as last time we were down our turnover should be in the region of ?61m - ?63m.
Our wage bill has presumably gone up a bit but I suspect we've made a profit this season and that coupled with the parachute payments and automatic reductions should mean it is bearable whilst we are receiving those.
Based on last time (and I don't see any reasons why our strategy will be different) and the need to get in three or four players I think we should expect to see us trying to bring in around ?12m-?15m in player sales this summer.
Funnily enough Redmond is already being touted around in the press today as available for around ?12m. In terms of what we probably need to do financially and the fact I think he will be desperate to leave anyway selling him (if we can get that price) would appear to make a lot of sense because we probably then don't need to sell anyone else so who moves on is our choice.
All based on estimates/approximations of course and I am sure the financial bods amongst us can pick this apart but that's my simplistic take on it. The parachute payments give us a huge advantage for 2 years so we need to be capitalizing on that.
