Who on here has a deep-fat fryer?

Thinking of buying one. Prompted by demand from my daughter that we make doughnuts this weekend, but also by the thought that then I could MAKE REAL CHIPS.

But does anyone actually do that nowadays? Are they a pain to use / keep clean or whatever? Are the chips worth it? I've never used one...
