While it's a concern, for balance, a lawyer I follow on that Twitter ....

... has had this to say (and he does make a good point that her record in child-protection cases is rather more relevant than who her dead brother was):

* One famous, often-quoted dictum of Butler-Sloss is "'the child is a person, not an object of concern".

* In essence, Baroness Butler-Sloss has a formidable record, in case after case, of placing the child at the heart of the matter.

* And she is so much a better lawyer than her brother.

* Lord Havers was one of most over-rated lawyers of his generation; and Lady Butler-Sloss one of the most outstanding judges of hers.

* Few judges have a stronger reputation in protecting children in case after case than Butler-Sloss; but an inquiry is not a job for a judge.

* Before dismissing Butler-Sloss (because of her less able lawyer brother) look at what she did with the Cleveland inquiry. Highly impressive.

* Good, balanced profile of Butler-Sloss in Guardian, covering what she did in Cleveland: User Posted Link

* Will shut up about Butler-Sloss now. Just irked that decades of excellent child-centred judging dismissed because of her less able brother.
