He's taking a team with massive (for the champs) resources through the parachute payments, and one without too many silly player contracts.

Good shot at getting out of the league with a goal scorer he knows up front.
Gets to learn some of the english game at a lower level than being dropped straight into the PL.

Beds in at champ level then steps up to the prem.
