my mum (in her late 70's).....

was trying to be very polite at the weekend and referred to a door to door salesman as "a lovely coloured gentleman" - to which we all frowned and explained that the term "coloured" wasnt acceptable in this day and age and why. She just couldnt get it. Her argument was that as she had described him as "lovely" and a "gentleman" - that her description was a "positive" - we tried to expalin that his colour was irrelevent to the story and that the term "coloured" isnt used anymore anyway. Leopards wont change their spots tho....
