When it comes to dealing with a throat dryer than Norwich City's goalspring, many would opt for a fine cup of Gold Blend.

Because it's coffee; and coffee, being primarily water-based, is wet.

We need that wetness. Especially when our throats are dry.

But I eschew that estimable beverage. Not just because of Anthony Stuart Head in those adverts.

Though sometimes we all need to shake our beans.

My epiglottis-soaker of choice is Twinings Earl Grey. In a horsemug. Purists will scoff, saying Grant Holt should be the last thing to spring to mind just now.

Especially in terms of what I want in my throat.

But for me, the delicate bergamot scent dancing delightfully on my parched pharynx brings paroxysms of pleasure comparable to Chippy landing a pass on a sixpence from sixty yards away.

And I'll be bolting on two and a half inches of custard cream too, first chance I get.
