It happened at a bad time as well

over the christmas period we were down to two central midfielders and had to play them both in every game. No chance to rest them and limited options to change formation.

The most demanding position physically, and we had no opportunity to rotate with 4 games in 10 days. No wonder Fer looked completely knackered by Palace.

You could argue it is partly Hughton's fault to start the season with only 4 midfielders - but it's still unlucky to have two out at the most important time.
