Simple stats

Over the history of the 20 team Premier League, the average number of points to stay up is 37 points.

The most ever needed is 43. That year included the astonishing crap Sunderland side picked up 2 points in their last 20 and the almost as dire West Brom who got 26 all year.

I can't see Palace and Sunderland being as bad as that so it's 40 at the outside, more likely less. Probably mid 30s.
