My thoughts on Hughton.
I love a lot of what he's done. Our first 11 and style of play is good, we are getting better and better at retaining the ball and building pressure to dominate possession. We did that exceptionally first half yesterday without scoring thanks to the post and a goal line clearance. Fer is a great signing as are Redmond and Olsson. The midfield trio look very good and I'm pleased with rvw and hooper. All in all a LOT of positives.
However there are some issues and these are why I feel more deflated after a city game than I have for years. As well as we played first half Cardiff were always going to react, match us and deny us the space in the middle that we had used so well first half. When they did that we needed to adapt ourselves if the same approach failed to continue to deliver. We didn't and thats the concern. Despite how well we played first half when it came down to it Hughton wasn't capable of having any positive impact on the game second half while it was in play. I struggle to remember much in the way of examples of him ever really managing to positively effect a game in progress and that should be a worry because the good managers can do that. I love our plan A but we must get better at developing a plan B and C on the fly or else we will be too easy to frustrate as Cardiff did yesterday.
