I think there are a number of problems you can't blame him for.
Inherited a strike force of Holt / Morison who on the evidence of previous season would get you goals and they failed miserably for whatever reason, spirit or tactics.
Lost Ruddy before half the season had gone and had to replace with an average but adequate replacement.
Failed to get his chosen strikers in Jan because Celtic and Sporting wouldn't play ball. Had to make do with a 19 gioal championship striker and MLS loanee.
In his favour the defence was strengthened.
