A few things
I think Lambert was always going to go when an offer came in, and ultimately I don't think it was a question of giving him a bigger contract, but securing the long-term financial safety of the club. Lambert wanted to spend ???s and we were not yet in a position to do that - indeed Villa have easily outspent us this season.
RVW is a calculated gamble - I guess if we do go down he won't actually come here, because we'll flog him to someone else at no significant loss. Or even a profit, given his form in Portugal?
Isn't the end of season party around this time every year? I don't think that's cockiness, just regular scheduling.
Have McNally and Hughton actually said at any point that we're safe? I don't think so.
Finally I don't think you can really blame McNally for agent talk like Weimann.
Obviously he has his fair share of the blame if we do go down, and the managerial appointment is part of that, but overall I still he's the best thing to happen to this club in the last decade.
