Not really the point

Anybody can spend stupid wages, doesn't mean the players are good (QPR). Wigan don't have any wingers that are as good as Pilkington or Snoddy, but it doesn't mean that they won't have players who are on bigger wages than them. We picked up a lot of these good players from the lower leagues through clever scouting, just because they are on lower wages (a consequence of where they've come from) oit doesn't mean that they aren't as good.

The main point was that they have been downsizing their squad and outgoings in general, the lowered wage bill (Whelan's plan to make them self sufficient) just backs up my point, that's all. While we have been spending they have been selling. We were also well above them last season, let's not forget that.

It's nice saying that they have a wealthy owner but the reality is that they're a selling club who are trying to reduce their outgoings. Every year they sell their better players whereas we keep ours and add new ones.
