Yes I know this is a crap comparison and maybe not relevant but in a cricket wicket appeal replay the first thing that gets looked at is whether the bowler?s foot is over the line; if it is over the review stops as it?s not out.
Last night I mentioned to Gemma that I thought the player was offside in the build up and this was proved in the later replays. So if we have a review of the ball over the line (which I support) where does it stop in the build up? I would argue in this case the offside decision was a vital part of goal and it should have not been allowed.
So although last night?s incident reinforces the requirement for goal line technology it also raises other questions about what other play in the lead up to the goal may or may not be needed for review.
