Human Rights, and the current trend for rioting

I was delighted to read AB, below, lampooning people who gripe about Human Rights. The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights is a wonderful, wonderful thing: surely, anyone who moans about it cannot have read it? The problem is that like most wonderful things, (such as the rule of law, and a functioning court system) there are people who seek to twist it for their own benefit. That's a shame, but it doesn't render the wonderful thing any less wonderful. I think AB has me on ignore, which is fine, but hopefully someone will pass on my congratulations and thanks. I'd begun to think I was in a tiny minority on the issue.

Now, the riots: a lot's been written so I won't bang on about it except to say to those who advocate sending in the troops, NONONONONONONONO!!!!!

Send the army in to fight its own people? When that happens in the UK, the end of civilisation in this country will be at hand. I'm tempted to add "FFS", because it ought to be self-evident.

As for whom is to blame, that's much too complex a subject to be easily ascertained. I've read people blaming The Parents: well, in many cases that's probably true, but let me tell about a bloke I work with. He's brought up four kids, three of whom are good people, salt of the earth, earning, contributing etc - but the other is beyond control and is ruining my mate's life. In and out of jails now he's too old for YOIs, he shows every sign that this will continue until someone kills him. Is that my mate's fault? I don't think it is.

For me, there's a glorification of crime that's been highly fashionable over the past decade, maybe two, and the ease of access to this culture (chart music, pooter games) for young kids is more or less guaranteeing that the problems can only become more commonplace. How we go about tackling this without hysterical over reaction, I'm not sure.

That wasn't very brief. Soz.
