system restore has to be your first point of call - you'll not lose any files, it only affects system files (as your virus has done)

Do a system restore from safe mode (reboot, keep tapping F8 after the bios screen) and do a system restore from there following the instructions from above - it's nothing major, just sounds like it's knocked out a registry entry.

If that still doesn't work then do the msconfig thing, then a system restore again - that should stop any virii from loading and enable you to at least sort it out and scan etc
