Broadcasting rights
The whole thing is a bit of mystery to me.
In the US, every major sporting game is covered live somewhere.
(You can buy season packages for every team or even all teams)
Yet in the FL, even though a TV company has the rights to show live games they show only a small fraction of them live.
A number of games are not shown live on TV anywhere but are exclusively streamed live on the internet by betting companies such as bet365 and unibet.
Some games are screened in foreign TV jurisdictions only.
The fact that private betting companies routinely get permission to stream live football league games on the internet kind of suggests that its possible to obtain the rights to stream any game you want outside of the games selected for TV.
