Centre back
Generally I have been impressed with Grant`s transfer dealings this summer . Of those whom he has brought in to date only the signing of Fotheringham appears to have been a mistake.
However his failure to sign one or more centre backs is a glaring omission. Indeed my view is that it should have been an absolute priority from day 1 but all the talk was abount strikers and midfield players.
Indeed I do belive that this has been an historical failure by the club for a number of years.
Believe it or not Doherty is the only specialist centre back to have been signed ( and even then he appears to have been brought in mainly as a stiker) by the club since Malky Mackay was signed by Mike Walker in 2000 (?). Our weakness at centre back has been chronic as evidenced by the goals conceded stats since promotion to the Premiereship and neither Worthie nor Grant has properly addressed this weakness .
Because there is now only two weeks to go before the transfer window closes any centre back that he does get in may be seen as a panic acquisition aka Doherty.
